The Carnegie Mellon School of Music provides a rigorous musical education within a major research university setting. The curriculum is designed to fully prepare students for careers by balancing the classical with the contemporary and blending traditional instruments with the most modern technologies.

While preparing for a professional career in music, music students select university courses that help develop their full range of talents. All Music Majors are required to take at least one class outside the School of Music every semester in residence. Many choose to group these university courses into a minor and/or double major in another area on the campus. Double majors are very challenging at Carnegie Mellon and ordinarily require an additional year of study to complete.

Becoming a professional musician requires talent and commitment. But it also takes the right educational environment -- one-on-one training with master teachers, strong ensemble and chamber music experiences, and diverse opportunities to develop your performance skills. You know what it takes. So does Carnegie Mellon.

The Carnegie Mellon School of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
